Daniel Keys Moran - Nonfiction Archives Page

Daniel Keys Moran nonfiction text archives

Daniel Keys Moran has graciously allowed these files to be available
electronically; something for which we are all grateful. Please respect
his copyright notices in each of the files, and the fact that he does
make a living by writing.

This is the archive of nonfiction pieces by Daniel Keys Moran.
Most of them were taken and edited from posts that he made to the
continuing-time mailing list. They include general information
about the Continuing Time (its creation and
current status as a project) and information about his
career as a writer, including some of the problems
 he's had.

There's also some speeches, Dan's
political views, and true real-life incidents.

The Genesis of the "Continuing Time"
(and current status)

A collection of Afterwords
from Emerald Eyes, The Long Run, and The Last Dancer.
All were edited, against DKM's wish, by Bantam.

A news release explaining the state of the
Continuing Time as of December 1994.

A Timeline of events in the Continuing Time,
up until the end of The Last Dancer.

Some Annotations which explain where some
of the in-jokes and references are in The Last Dancer and The
Long Run.

The stories themselves are in the fiction
archive.

On Writing

How Dan writes

Trials and Tribulations

Problems with Bantam

An article about the genesis of
The Ring movie novelization. It was originally written for SFWA
Bulletin, but ended up not being sent to them due to Bantam's unhappiness
with the article.

Problems with Paramount

An episode of Star Trek:Voyager titled Ex Post Facto
was very similar to a story idea that Daniel Keys Moran pitched to
Paramount, yet which Paramount did not accept. Daniel
describes the incident as he saw it,
and how it was resolved.

Review of Ex Post Facto.

Production information for Ex Post Facto.

DKM also made available the
original pitches (in the fiction archive) of the
story idea mentioned above. This ultimately became the episode of
Star Trek:Deep Space Nine titled Hard Time.

Review of Hard Time.

Production information for Hard Time.

"Star Trek" is a trademark of the
Paramount corporation.

Speeches:

Speech to the Coalition for Networked
Information (to find out who they are, check out

http://www.cni.org/services.html).

Here is the

CNI Spring 1995 Task Force Meeting, which includes their summary of
the speech.

Speech at Conspiracy (A science-fiction
convention). This is actually a rough draft of the above speech, but it
contains a cool car spinout story that was cut out.

Political views:

Dan is very passionately concerned about the political process.
Here are some of his views on the
state of our nation.
He even considered running
for office once!

True Stories:

This is a real experience DKM had
while working as a consultant in New York City. It's very
amusing.
